Privacy Policy

Kinetiq is a group-travel app: you plan trips with people you choose, see each other on a live map, message and call, and keep shared memories. That only works if you can trust us with where you are and who you're with. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and the controls you have. We've written it to be read.

1. What we collect

• Account information. Your name, email address, profile photo, language, and preferences (like text size and notification settings).
• Trip content. Itineraries, stops, bookings, notes, free-time blocks, packing lists, and the trips you clone or share.
• Location. Your device's precise location, only while location sharing is on for a trip. See section 3 — this is the most important part of this policy.
• Messages & voice notes. Text messages and voice notes you send in trip chats.
• Photos & Moments. Photos you upload and the Moments you create from trips, including the places and days you pin them to.
• Friends & family links. The people you add by friend code or QR, and whether you've marked someone as family. We do not upload your phone's contact book.
• Device & diagnostics. Device model, OS version, app version, crash reports, and performance measurements — used to keep the app fast and stable.

2. How we use it

• To run the product: shared plans, the live group map, ETAs, chat, Moments, and notifications.
• To keep your group looked after: leave-time reminders, route heads-ups when someone drifts far from the day's plan, and SOS alerts you trigger.
• To power AI planning (see section 5) and translation when you use those features.
• To fix problems, prevent abuse, and improve reliability and speed.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your content or your location to show you advertising.

3. Location, in detail

• Sharing is per trip and per person. You choose whether to share with everyone on the trip or only selected people.
• Incognito sends nothing. When you pause sharing, your device stops sending coordinates entirely — others simply see "Sharing off." We can't show what we don't receive.
• Live positions are short-lived. Current positions are held in fast, expiring storage to draw the live map; they are not kept as a long-term movement history.
• Family observers you approve can see the group map and upcoming plans, read-only, for trips you haven't hidden from them. You can hide any trip, or remove family status, at any time.
• Background location, if you allow it, is used only to keep the live map and safety features working while the app is closed during an active trip. You can use Kinetiq with foreground-only location too.

4. Who can see what

Visibility is enforced on our servers before data ever leaves them — not just hidden in the app.

5. AI features

Remi, Kinetiq's planning assistant, works from the context of your trip — destination, dates, your group's pace, the weather, and what's already planned. To generate plans and suggestions, that trip context is processed by our AI provider (Google Vertex AI) under contracts that prohibit using your data to train their models. AI suggestions are drafts: nothing is added to a shared plan without appearing in front of your group first.

6. Service providers

Kinetiq runs on infrastructure providers that process data on our behalf, under contract, only to provide the service:

• Google Cloud — hosting, storage of your photos and media, and push notifications (Firebase).
• Google Maps Platform — maps, places, routes, and weather shown in the app.
• Google Cloud Translation — the translator, when you use it.
• Google Vertex AI — AI planning, as described above.
• Google Cloud Storage + Cloud CDN — storage and delivery of your photos and media.

We share data beyond this only if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users — and we'll tell you unless we're legally prevented from doing so.

7. Retention & deletion

• Your account data and content are kept while your account is active.
• Live positions expire automatically within minutes.
• Removed stops are archived inside your trip so they can be restored — they're deleted with the trip or your account.
• When you delete your account (in the app: Me → Settings → Delete account, or via this page), your profile, trips, messages, Moments, media, and location data are permanently deleted within 30 days. Backups age out on a fixed schedule shortly after.
• Content you shared into other people's spaces (a message in a group chat, an itinerary someone cloned) may persist in their copy after your account is gone, disconnected from your identity.

8. Security

All traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS). Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure storage. Access to production data is restricted and logged, sensitive fields are filtered before they're serialized to any client, and we never write coordinates, tokens, or message contents to logs.

9. Your rights & choices

• Controls in the app: sharing mode and audience, incognito, note visibility, Moment visibility, hiding trips from family observers, blocking, and notification preferences.
• Access & export: email us to request a copy of your data.
• Correction & deletion: edit your profile and content in the app; delete your account in the app or via the deletion page.
• Depending on where you live (e.g. EU/EEA, UK, California), you may have additional statutory rights — contact us and we'll honor them.

10. Children

Kinetiq is not directed at children under 13 (or the higher minimum age where you live), and we don't knowingly create accounts for them. Minors traveling with a family group should use a parent's or guardian's supervision consistent with local law.

11. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect and update the date at the top. Continuing to use Kinetiq after that means the new version applies.
